Is Glenn Beck Right? or What About the Answers?

Is Glenn Beck Right? Are we in the throes of a Revolution of Marxist proportion?

I'm not sure. But here's my "One Thing" - I want some answers. Now, before all of the Glenn Beck haters out there go all blogo-psycho on me, let me say this: I am a free thinker

I believe in the inalienable rights of every man and woman to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. However, I am NOT a self-proclaimed "progressive". I believe that our nation and system of government was founded on solid principles, and that there are many out there (somewhere, I don't know where) that would, if given the power and opportunity, fundamentally change the way in which we live.

I am a conservative, free-market capitalist, but I also believe that to whom much is given, much is required. I think that government should be limited in scope and control - just large enough to take care of the basic infrastructures of our country. Among those being, national security and defense, maintaining the economy and providing for the common good of all citizens.

Furthermore, I think we should be a compassionate nation - founded on the basis that all are welcome (yes, I'm talking about immigration), but only so long as they go through a due process. I think that process needs to be made accessible to any who wish to apply, but we need to stop importing all of the dregs of society from the nations of the Western Hemisphere, especially those from Mexico and Central America. WE NEED TO PROTECT THE BORDERS.

There's more to my political philosophy, but that digresses from my original point.

Where are the answers. I look on all of the major news services today and here are the headlines:

CNN.com - Wildfire with Mind of it's Own/U.S. commander: New Afghan strategy needed
MSNBC.com - Communications Hub Threatened (wildfire news)/Disney to buy Marvel for $4 Million

CBS News.com - Is Afgan Gov't Coming to Aid of Bombers?/(other wildfire news)

Foxnews.com - Health Care reform down to options/Off the Radar (story about CA kidnapping)

....and these are just the Main National news networks. SO WHERE'S THE JOURNALISM?

Now, I know that the likes of Glenn Beck, Rachel Maddow, Keith Olbermann, Bill O'Reilly, and Jon Stewart do not purport to be journalists (well, I'm not sure whether Maddow calls herself one or not, but let's just say for argument that she's not), and that their shows are designed to pull in viewers and ratings. However, I just can't shake the notion that some of the things that Glenn Beck said this past week are accurate. According to him, the White House hasn't refuted any of the "facts" that Mr. Beck listed, except to say that the gentlemen in the positions referred to by Mr. Beck are not "Czars", but have other titles.

Semantics aside, I find that disturbing. Is there really a self-professed Communist working in the White House as the director of the "Green Jobs" programs? Someone who professed to looking up to Marxist-Leninist ideals and the philosophies, if not the tactics of Mao Tse Tsung? Well, all I have to say to that is, "Holy Crap!" If this is true -- WAKE UP PEOPLE!

I don't care if you're Republican, Democrat or Independent - WAAKE UUUPPP! ASK SOME QUESTIONS!!

Listen, maybe the answers are not so doom and gloom -- but I haven't heard ANY answers. I'm not even hearing QUESTIONS being asked by ANY of the "Media". The news outlets need to start asking questions.

In closing, let me quote a great movie, The American President, directed by Rob Reiner (a liberal), written by Aaron Sorkin (a liberal - I think), and about a Liberal President. Here's the scene - One of the chief speech writers or advisors to the president, Lewis (played by Michael J Fox), questions the president about why he hadn't gone toe-to-toe with the antagonist Republican senator about the mud being slung, the following exchange between Lewis, A.J. (the President's Chief of Staff), and the President took place:

  • A.J. - The President doesn't answer to you, Lewis.
  • LEWIS - Oh yes, he does, A.J. I'm a citizen, this is my president, and in this country it is not only permissible to question our leaders, it is our responsibility. But you already know that, Mr. President, because you have a deeper love of this country than any man I've ever known, and I want to know what it says to you that in the past seven weeks 59 percent of Americans have begun to question your patriotism?
  • SHEPHERD - Look, if people want to listen to Bob Rumson--
  • LEWIS - They don't have a choice! Rob Rumson's the only one doing the talking. People want leadership. And in the absence of genuine leadership, they will listen to anyone who steps up to the microphone. They want leadership, Mr. President. They're so thirsty for it, they'll crawl through the desert toward a mirage, and when they discover there's no water, they'll drink the sand.

So, I'm saying to the news media -- Hey guys and gals --- ASK THE QUESTIONS! GET US SOME ANSWERS!

And to the White House - Mr. President, I respect you and admire your courage, but frankly, I am concerned. I have not heard any rebuttal from you on these matters. We want LEADERSHIP, Mr. President! You are my president, sir. I agree with Lewis - I believe it my duty to question our leadership.

God Bless America,

Scott
